Mélanger du wolof, du djembé ou de la kora avec un jazz modal ou bop soufflé à pleins poumons par un émule de Coltrane, ça s'peut pas. Pourtant, c'est l'étrange hallucination auditive que l'on expérimente en écoutant Aduma sur ce curieux album, enregistré à Xippi, chez l'ami Youssou, à l'initiative du producteur montréalais Jim West, avec la collaboration de David Murray comme réalisateur. Comme sur le rugueux Yonn-Dé, réalisé par le même West avec les maîtres de la tradition "Gwo Ka" de la Guadeloupe,
Murray amène son sax mais laisse toute la place à N'Diaye qui joue aussi du ténor, de l'alto et du soprano.
À la fois inouï et tout à fait inégal, ce disque donne à entendre, dans Xarit Sama, des sonorités d'une troublante beauté qui rappellent les complaintes désertiques d'Ali Farka Touré.
